Bright + Airy Living Room Refresh: Top 5 FAQ’s Answered

You asked and I’m answering! Sharing all the details of our bright + airy living room refresh – your top 5 FAQ’s answered. You know things are always changing here in our fixer upper as we settle into this home and figure out what makes sense and feels right! We recently updated the entryway – more on that soon and gave the living room a little love. I updated the lighting, rug, pillows, removed the drapery and installed roman shades and added crown molding and window casing.

Last week when it was rainy and cold I turned on the lights and snapped these pics with my iPhone. I shared them recently on IG and was inundated with so many questions so I thought I would put together a quick post and share them with you here on the blog. I plan on taking better pictures but until then let’s get your questions answered!

Question #1: Where is your couch from?

Our living room wouldn’t be as bright and airy without our white couch. I get so many questions about it. Here’s the scoop – it’s the IKEA Farlov sofa. It has a single bench seat and removable slipcover. There are other slipcover color options but I love white so white won! This will be the last item to be refreshed in our living room. We have a new white sofa on the way and I’m excited to share it with you.

I know what you are thinking – why a new sofa? What’s wrong with the IKEA one? Well here’s my answer – I’m not a huge fan of the fabric nor do I love the cushions but for the price point you can’t beat it! You can definitely invest in some slipcover options from other companies but I felt that wouldn’t change the fact that the cushions are very uncomfortable (in my opinion). It was time to say goodbye and update it to something we will truly love.

Question #2: Where is your rug from?

I recently added this beautiful rug to infuse a little color and pattern into our mainly white living room. It’s currently out of stock but I will link it for you with the hopes it is re-stocked soon! I’m also including a few other similar options that may work for you! This one is very similar and in stock. I love how soft it is and the variety of colors – they are all so soothing and pretty! The size of our rug is a 6 x 9 and I definitely recommend this rug pad for underneath your rug.

Question #3: Where is your pendant light from?

I recently updated our lighting with this pendant and it was one of the most affordable updates I’ve done in awhile! It can be found here a major steal for under $150 and the color of ours is black. They also have brass and silver options. It’s the perfect modern farmhouse pendant light and I’m so glad I found it for our living room – the size and height fit perfectly with our 8 foot ceilings.

Question #4: What paint color is on your walls?

This is probably one of the most popular questions I get in my inbox and via comments on IG. Our wall color is Snowbound by Sherwin Williams. It is the most perfect neutral white/light grey and it goes with everything! We painted the interior of our entire home with this color and couldn’t be happier!

Question #5: What is the color of your trim, barn doors, & fireplace?

We recently added crown molding, window casing and gave our fireplace a much needed coat of paint (the white wash look wasn’t working for us). The color we used is Ultra Pure White by Behr. For the fireplace I went with a matte finish and for the rest of the trim and barn doors we went with a semigloss.

I hope answering your top 5 FAQ’s for our bright + airy living room refresh was helpful! I would love to hear what other questions you have – leave them for me below!

And one more thing…I wanted to share this fun fact – did you know some of my most popular posts on IG are the ones with the lighting on rather than off? It’s possible to appreciate the cozy vibe that natural lighting plus mood lighting can give in a space. I know most designers and influencers tend to shy away from photographing interiors with the lights on but I really feel there can be an opportunity to share a space with the warmth and glow of lighting in a room. Instead of shying away from photographing with only the lights off I’m embracing that warm glow and sharing more of it here on the blog – hope you like it! Don’t forget to head to our diy rustic mantel post here and see the before of this space during the holidays here.
