This is my first year choosing Minted for Christmas cards and I couldn’t be happier with my choice! I’ve selected 6 of my favorite Christmas photo cards and tips for coordinating outfits. I always choose my Christmas photo card after I’ve taken the photos. It’s easier in my opinion to match styles afterwards. However if you know a specific theme you are going for for your card than consider my tips below before picking your holiday outfits. If your kiddos are like my youngest and have specific clothing requests (like fancy dresses) then working around what they want to wear for your Christmas photos is important too! I’m here to help with the process.

Select a Color Theme & Coordinate Colors:

When you are choosing holiday outfits look for coordinating colors. Decide if you are going for a bright and vibrant color direction, neutral or traditional green and red Christmas color theme. Whatever color theme you decide on make sure the outfits you choose have one common color in all the outfits.

The outfits don’t need to be match in style because as most kids get older they want to express their own unique style and don’t want to be forced to wear a version (3 sizes up) from little sis or their little brother. For example, this year my oldest wore a cute black jumpsuit (her choice) and my youngest wanted a sparkly fancy dress – they were both happy and this made the whole process so much easier because they were excited about picking their own outfits! Their outfits coordinated in color and style (both wore faux fur vests).

Consider Pattern & Texture:

When choosing your outfits make sure your patterns coordinate and don’t clash. Consider whether or not the pattern you select will either blend or potentially compete with a Christmas photo card background. I typically like going with a more subtle pattern and style so that the actual photo of the girls and style of the card remains the focus instead of the holiday outfit. I love to add a little holiday sparkle with shimmer details and texture with faux fur. Think: velvet, plaid, pretty florals, and sequins – all great options to add interest.

Combine Outfit Style & Color + Christmas Card Theme:

If you go with a plaid Christmas card style/themed card make sure you’ve considered how it will pair your outfit choices. For example, if you dress everyone in plaid and then choose a plaid card theme that may feel like {plaid overload}. However if you go with more subtle outfit options then the plaid style card will compliment and not compete with the look you’ve chosen. That’s a win in my book! For our card I choose jewel tones with a touch of blush pink to compliment the pink in my youngest daughter’s fur vest. The tones of their outfit coordinate and match with the floral pattern on the Christmas card.
