The Story Behind the White Chalk Painted Table

We’ve been spending more time at home since my little one broke her leg.  Definitely not the best way to start off our summer but sometimes things happen that make us slow down and take a moment to enjoy the little things in life.  Sometime things happen to remind us what is really important in our lives.

While we are passing our time with games and crafts I’ve also let my little one indulge in a few new movies.  One of her current favorites is the Wizard of Oz.  So after watching it several times with her over the last few days I decided it was time to put a little effort into a blog post for my sanity 🙂

I realized that I never blogged about our entryway table.  It was a project I completed last summer and I’ve been meaning to write about it for a while – better late than never!  This little table has received many compliments and it’s one item I receive a lot of questions about on my IG feed.

One of the most frequent questions I receive is: where did I purchase the table?  Well the answer is this, I was lucky enough to receive this table from my sweet mom – so no purchase necessary!  The table was a mahogany color.  I really wanted to update it to a white finish so I decided it would become my first chalk paint project.  I used Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in pure white and spent a day last summer  painting away…it was very therapeutic and super fun.  I was so excited about the end result.

Here is a not so great shot of the table “Before”

Now here is the fun part – being able to decorate it.  It’s like the little white or black dress – goes with so many different colors and decorative items.  You can dress it down or dress it up!  It’s super versatile.  I have been able to decorate it through the seasons.  Below is a collage of all the different ways I decorated it throughout the past year.

I’ve had fun changing out the knobs and décor and I’m so glad I painted it white.  It brightens our entryway and looks great against our light grey walls.

A year later and the chalk paint is still going strong.  I do recommend using the wax over the chalk paint for maintaining the look – the wax creates a water repellent surface and makes cleaning/dusting a breeze.  It also makes it more durable which is super important with little ones in the house – gotta make all the effort chalk painting last!! 🙂

And of course if you aren’t up for chalk painting a table here are 2 cute ones I found for you here and here.

  1. I love Annie Sloan paint! I paint our bathroom cabinets in our last house along with lots of little decor items for the house. I find it therapeutic to paint also. 🙂
