Today I’m sharing a modern + classic tablescape that you can create for Thanksgiving or Friendsgiving!
One of my biggest tips in creating a tablescape for Thanksgiving or Friendsgiving is to have fun with it! Whether you have a few close friends over or you are hosting a large gathering – you can keep it modern + classic while also adding a few unexpected touches that your family + friends will love.

I was able to find all of these gorgeous tablescape essentials at Walmart. They always have the best selection and quality items that ship fast – right in time for the upcoming holidays! With free returns and shipping on orders over $35 – you can’t go wrong shopping Walmart’s home decor selection online. Walmart had everything I needed to create this modern + classic tablescape!
Creating a Modern + Classic Tablescape
Pretty dinnerware will always set the tone for a tablescape. I chose this fun yet elegant dinnerware set from Walmart that is dishwasher and microwave safe and can be used everyday – not just for the holidays!
I paired this dinnerware set with modern + classic elements like a white cloth napkin and a plaid fall runner.
First I placed the runner at an angle instead of the traditional way that usually spans the center of the table. I then gathered the ends and tied them loosely to create some movement and variation.
Secondly, I played around with the napkin and silverware arrangement.
Lastly, I added a few organic, natural elements using dried wheat stems and leather cord. The addition of gold silverware warms everything and adds a modern look to the Thanksgiving or Friendsgiving tablescape.
Shop all of these items from Walmart including our rug & dining chairs (also from Walmart) in the photos below!
I love the simple yet modern glassware I chose. The shape and style is understated and practical for everyday use!
Here’s a look at how the napkin looks angled along with placing the silverware in a more traditional placement. This was my favorite look. Don’t be afraid to try different arrangements!
And you can always place the runner diagonal without gathering. Table runners always add a pop of color and interest to a tablescape.
Set the Mood
A modern + classic tablescape for Thanksgiving or Friendsgiving would not be complete without pretty candles and gold votives – this color candle is so pretty for fall!
I hope you feel inspired after reading this post! This modern + classic tablescape for Thanksgiving or Friendsgiving was so easy to create and the perfect way to welcome family and friends to celebrate the upcoming holidays!
