To recap: ever since we renovated our fixer upper we have been slowly updating our furnishings to reflect our new home’s style and personality.
We were over cramming on a small sofa and knew we need more space for lounging and movie nights. After searching for the perfect sofa for our family we are are so happy to have found one! We finally gave our family room a the refresh it desperately needed! Complete with a new sofa & chaise, pretty new coffee table and comfy leather chair from Room & Board. I’ll share all the pictures but first I want to share why we love our Metro sofa and our honest review!
Modern Style
We didn’t want to sacrifice modern or style even though we have kids and a dog. You don’t have to either! If you are waiting to invest in a sofa because you think your children will spill or your pets will ruin it then you need to check out the Metro Sofa.
I received so many direct messages after I shared it on Instagram. The consensus was that you either have had this sofa for years, were ordering one or that you absolutely loved it!! Designed for Comfort
Beyond how gorgeous the sofa is and the features its soooo comfortable!! That’s what sold us initially – how comfortable it was to sit on. We literally didn’t want to get up from the Metro Sofa in the Room & Board showroom.
With thick plush cushions that are the perfect amount of firmness – not too firm but not too soft the Metro Sofa is by far one of the comfiest sofas I’ve ever sat on! I love that Room & Board products are designed for ultimate comfort and designed to last. This was a huge bonus for us as we wanted a sofa that would stand the test of time not only with style but with normal everyday use. My bestie told me they’ve had theirs for almost 10 years!! So many of you told me the same – how awesome is that?!
Family + Pet Friendly
There are so many fabric options to choose from for the Metro Sofa and you can see my tips on selecting in our sofa shopping post. Ultimately, I chose the stock fabric because I loved it the most. It’s called Tatum Grey and not only is it family/kid friendly, but it’s also fur baby friendly!
Many of you know our pup Mavis. She is a cuddly, spunky and sometimes mischievous Welsh Terrier. We wanted to make sure we chose a sofa that would be forgiving to any potential messes and easy to clean! We also didn’t want to worry about messes from our kiddos or while entertaining. I have such peace of mind knowing that this fabric is not only beautiful and comfortable but also protected from any stains or spills.
Quality & Customer Service
I can’t tell you how happy we are with the quality of the sofa. We’ve had our new Metro Sofa for about a month and I can genuinely tell you it’s been everything we imagined it to be. The quality has gone beyond our expectations. The back and bottom cushions can be reversed and are easy to fluff. The cushions retain their shape and the stitching is top notch.
I also want to give a major shout out to the entire Room & Board team – from the Design team at our local Room & Board – Christine and Josh, to the fantastic customer service team that helped schedule our delivery as well as the delivery team. They have all been AMAZING. Service is everything. I felt like we were in the best hands from start to finish during the entire process.
My mom heard me rave so much about our Metro sofa and Room & Board experience she ended up with the same sofa (different fabric). She echoed the same feelings about the customer service. My mom was also super impressed with how everything was handled with her order and delivery. My parents are now enjoying their Metro sofa just as much as we are enjoying ours. We are now officially all part of the Room & Board family :).

Now that you have had this sectional for a while, how is the fabric holding up? Any fuzzing or pilling? Do you still love your sofa?
Hi! It is holding up beautifully and we absolutely love it as much now as the day we got it! No fuzzing, pulling and cushions look and feel brand new! Best sofa ever 🙂

I loved your post And I’m about to buy two metro sofas. I ordered a bunch of free swatches and Tatum gray looks so much darker than it does in this picture does it seem to be holding up well with kids and dogs? We have four kids and two dogs and I’m so worried because your couch in the picture looks so much lighter!
This post has really made me want to buy this couch! I’ve been doing a lot of research and am really considering the metro now. Similar to Amy’s comment, I’m wondering about the true color of the Tatum Gray. I love the way it looks in your post but I also ordered swatches and the color looks more brown than gray. Would you say the color in the photos is true to the color in person or is it slightly lighter?
Hi! The fabric is the perfect blend of light and dark grey – it looks exactly as pictured in my photos. It such a beautiful color, super durable and awesome for if you have pets and kids!
Hi! I found once the sofa is in a room its a beautiful shade of grey and is not too light nor too dark. It has held up beautifully with our family and dog (it’s been a year now). Such a comfy sofa & perfect for families 🙂

Somehow your comment was lost in my list to reply – hopefully you are loving your Metro sofa! It has held up beautifully with the kids and our dogs – we now have 2 dogs! The picture may look lighter because our home had a ton of natural light in that room but its the perfect grey/neutral mix and goes with everything!

Beth, your home is so beautiful—and so is the Metro sectional, which we just received at our home! We also chose the Tatum Grey color. Question: Did your sofa require any break-in time? (Ours isn’t as soft as we’d hoped, but we’ve only had it for a day.) Also, have you noticed any rustling noise when you sit on the cushions? If so, has it gotten better with time? Thank you!

Yes I would say it will definitely will break-in and soften – ours did and we don’t and didn’t notice any rustling noise when we sit on it – maybe there is some remaining plastic wrap somewhere from the delivery? It has held up beautifully and one of the most comfortable sofas I’ve ever owned – we get so many compliments about our sofa! Enjoy it!

Hi Elisabeth, asking for another update regarding your sectional. We are considering buying the same as yours with extra elements so it will be substantially more expensive and this is why I am hesitant. Some reviews mentioning the cushions have been extruding feathers, a bit uncomfortable and messy when the ends poke out. Do you have any experience like these?

Hi! Occasionally the feathers do come out but it doesn’t happen often and doesn’t bother us at all. It’s totally worth it since the cushions are so comfortable and easy to fluff and retain their shape. This sofa has been one of the best furniture items we have ever owned!

oh yay! you are going to LOVE this sofa! I think they may be 20×20 but I’m not 100% sure since I usually swap out those pillows with a different option. Enjoy your new sofa – hope you love it as much as we do!
Hello! I’m sorry if I missed this, but is your sofa the standard or deep? We (think) we really want the deep, but the standard is what will fit best in our room unless we change the configuration… I’m wondering if yours is the standard, are you happy lounging/snuggling, or would you get the deep next time? If it’s the deep, do you ever think you should’ve gone with the standard for more options for sitting positions? It’s such a hard choice. It’s for our tv/family room where, except for super bowl parties, etc., we pretty much only lay, lounge, snuggle up when watching movies or reading. The deep just seems heavenly, but not sure it’s worth completely changing the design of the room.

Hi! I believe we have the standard and it’s perfect. The one I have linked in the post is the exact one and it is super comfy for lounging, watching tv etc. We have had this couch for several years now and it is still one of my most favorite furniture items we have and has held up amazingly well!
I can’t seem to find this on the R&B website, but is any part of the sofa machine washable? Or is it spot clean only? After starting our day with a puppy with an upset stomach…all over my house…I’m worried about only being able to spot clean!
The R&B website has a great option that allows you to filter fabric choices to include pet friendly and family friendly options. I did this to ensure we would end up with both of those options. It has been 5 years now and our sofa and fabric has held up beautifully! Last year we got a puppy and she had a couple of accidents and we were able to clean the fabric and remove the stains easily. I removed the cover for one of her more stubborn messes by cleaning & soaking it in the bathtub and then letting it air dry. Years ago we did have a stain from our other dog that I ended up using our washing machine for – I don’t believe it is recommended but it did work on the gentle setting and air drying. Most stains are easily removed with Folex so these are just a couple of extreme examples that I have tried in the past several years. I also love having the couch professionally cleaned every year – I feel like it extends the life of the couch making it look brand new! Hope this helps!
