We Sold Our Home: Our New Renovation Journey Has Begun

We are beginning another chapter with our new home and we are so excited to take you along for the journey!

Why are we moving?

We have been itching to remodel a fixer upper and the opportunity presented itself and we couldn’t say no! We also wanted more of an outdoor space and this new house happens to have an incredible yard, view, and a pool! In California we feel super fortunate to have great weather that we can enjoy year round. It’s exciting to think that we will get to incorporate more of an outdoor living area with our new home.

Making a House a Home: Our Home Renovation History

In 2008, we bought our first home together (as husband and wife) and we renovated every square inch of that 70’s home learning so much along the way. We were lucky to have an amazing neighbor that is a contractor and taught us a lot! My parents also have many years of experience with custom homes and home renovations – they are always my go-to for advice and my questions – thank goodness they don’t live far away! When our first home sold in 6 days we scrambled to find a new one quickly and we were dealing with a challenging real estate market (multiple bids, limited inventory). On top of that I found out I was expecting baby #2 and so the pressure to find a new home made us decide pretty fast on the limited choices in homes that were available. We kept gravitating to an area that had lots of kids and families. We were so fortunate to find this home in the spring of 2013 and I began sharing it here on the blog and on IG when we renovated our kitchen, fireplace, and refreshed each space 2 years ago.

Ready For a New Home

We did as much as we wanted to our tract home and were ready to move on to a custom home. From time to time we would spend our weekends looking at new homes for fun, taking Sunday drives to different neighborhoods – yes we are that couple! We always love to look and are always looking for a good project! When we had the opportunity to hone our search and get more serious we found ourselves drawn to an area we had always loved. Luckily an offer to buy our home came our way without having to put it on the market. We discussed if we were ready to take on a new home search, renovation and leave our home that we loved and decided to move forward and not look back! We narrowed our search quickly on that one particular area we loved. I found a house and we put in an offer in right away – with fingers crossed we waited and luckily received the exciting news that it was accepted!

Our New House

Our new house is in need of a major refresh, it was built in 1970 and desperately needs updating. It’s a single level ranch house and not any bigger than our current home. The outdoor space and lot size however is 4x’s bigger than our current home. I can’t wait to share our kitchen design plans with all of you – so many of you come to this blog for our current kitchen and I’m excited to share a new design for our new home while sticking to a budget! Did I mention we can’t wait to take on this challenge?! We began demo this week and I’m pretty much giddy with excitement! lol! I will be sharing our weekly progress, design dilemmas, tips, and tricks along the way. We hope to inspire you to tackle a renovation and remodeling project big or small. We hope to inspire you to buy a house that needs a little TLC so you can make it your own. We are going to do just that – making it a home we love, just like the two homes we have previously owned.
